Japanese ship leaking tonnes of oil into Indian Ocean after running aground near Mauritius

Thousands of students, environmental activists and residents of Mauritius are working around the clock trying to reduce the damage to the Indian Ocean island from an oil spill after a Japanese ship ran aground on a coral reef.An estimated 1 tonne of oil from the MV Wakashio’s cargo of 4 tonnes has already escaped into the sea, officials said.
